   Protective equipment

-          Wear protective clothing and use self- contained breathing apparatus.

6. Accidental Release Measures

Personal precautions:

Put on adequate protective equipment. Do not breathe vapour. Ensure adequate ventilation.

Environment precautions:

Keep away from drains, surface-water, ground-water and soil.

Cleaning procedure:

Remove mechanically; cover reminders with wet, absorbent material (e.g. sawdust, chemical binder based on calcium silicate hydrate, sand). After approx. one hour transfer to waste container and do not seal ( evolution of CO2!).

Cover the remainder with inert absorbent. Dispose according to local regulations.

11. Toxicological Information

- Inhalation:

Low vapour concentrations cause irritation of the respiratory tract, causing. coughing and slight difficulty with breathing. Higher concentrations produce more severe irritation, and may be accompanied by nausea, fatigue, weakness, euphoria, drowsiness, double vision, ataxia and coma.

Asthma and chronic bronchitis suffers should refrain from handling the product.

- Skin:

May produce mild reddening of the skin. Prolonged contact may produce drying and fissuring due to defatting action.

- Eyes:

Vapour is mildly irritating. Liquid produces chemical conjunctivitis

With mild transient corneal injury.

- Ingestion:

Slightly toxic. Ingestion of moderate quantities may cause abdominal  discomfort, nausea and drowsiness. In high concentrations it is narcotic.

12. Ecological Information

BODY HARDENER FAST is almost insoluble in water and will float on the surface. It could cause a fire or explosion if a large spill drained into a sewer system and would be highly toxic to fish if discharged to natural waters. Avoid discharging to sewers or waterways! Do not allow to escape into water, wastewater or soil.

The resin reacts with water at the interface forming CO2 and a solid insoluble product with a high melting point (polyurea). This reaction is accelerated by surfactants or by water-soluble solvents miscible with water.

13. Disposal Considerations

Methods of disposal:

Controlled incineration.

Danger(s):

Emptied vase contain solvent vapours and resin rests, hazardous with respect to  fire, explosion and noxiousness. They shall be disposed of only if the residual product adhering to the walls an isopropanol-ammonia-water mixture and after having eliminated the identification labels.

The above mentioned manufacturer's information on the handling of isocyanates is contained in the Safety Data Sheet for the product.

The European Committee of Paint, Printing Ink and Artists' Colors Manufacturers' Associations (CEPE) provides the following information on coatings containing isocyanates.

Ready-to-use paints containing isocyanates may have an irritant effect on mucous membranes - especially on breathing organs- and cause hypersensitivity reactions. Inhalation of vapour or spray mist may cause sensitization. When handling paints containing isocyanates all precautions required for solvent-containing paints must be followed. Vapour and spray mist in particular should not be inhaled. Allergics and asthmatics as well as people prone to respiratory ailments should not work with isocyanate containing paints.
